Aiken Standard Kids Triathlon Parents Letter

Dear Parents and Triathletes:

Thank you for participating in the inaugural Aiken Standard Kids Triathlon. We are happy to have you here with us and want to be certain that we can create a fun and SAFE environment.

 

The race will be located at the Aiken County Family YMCA at 621 Trolley Line Rd, Graniteville, SC. The start and finish line will be out front of the aquatics area. All race participant and spectator parking it to be in the gravel lot next to the pool entrance.

 

The race will start at 7:30 AM. There will be a pre-race meeting for all participants at 7 AM. All participants should have their bikes and shoes ready in the transition area that will be staked off in the grassy area adjacent to the pool slide. We will start with pool swim for all participants. Ages 14 - 18 will swim a 200 meter swim by completing a down and back, ducking under the lane line and moving to the next lane (4 times) exiting the pool on the opposite side of the pool. Ages 11 - 13 will do the same, except 100 meters. Ages 8 - 10 will swim 50 meters. Ages 6 - 7 will swim 25 meters. There will be a short break between each age groups to allow for the transition area to clear out. All swimmers will enter the pool in the 30 second intervals. No flotation devices, life jackets, gloves or flippers will be allowed. All children must be able to swim.

 

All children must wear a helmet to be able to participate in the bike portions. Ages 6 - 7 will have a 1 mile bike ride.

Ages 8 - 18 will have a 3 mile bike ride. This is an out and back course.

 

For the running portion, all children will have a 1 mile out and back run.

 

The transition area needs to be free from obstruction. We are asking all parents stay out of the roped off area once the race begins. We will have volunteers available to assist as needed.

 

Athletes will have their arms marked with their bib numbers and must have their race bib visible during the entire run portion of the race.

 

In the event that the triathlon must be canceled due to inclement weather, we are sorry to announce that refunds will not be granted.
